Regis, one of Drizzt's friends, has an unfortunate altercation with a ghost from his past. An assassin, Artemis Entreri, comes inquiring after a certain magical gem that Regis "borrowed" from his thieves guildmaster in Calimport. The assassin kidnaps Regis and Drizzt's magical cat, Guenhwyvar. Anyone who can steal a 600 pound panther is a force to be reckoned with. Drizzt must rush to rescue Regis and Guenhwyvar before they are lost forever.
