Guenhwyver is Drizzt's Magical panther. Linked from the astral plane by a onyx figurine, Guenhwyver can only spend a limited time in the material plane. Usually Guenhwyver spends about a half day, every other day. Drizzt acquired Guenhwyver from Masoj Hunnet, another drow who used the proud panther to hunt down innocent Svirfneblin.

When Masoj decided to kill Drizzt in an attempt to destroy house Do'Urden, Guenhwyver not only managed to fight her master's commands, she saved Drizzt from certain death. After Drizzt was forced to kill Masoj, he fled into the underdark. The black panther was his only companion in the 10 years he spent there.
